The Men's group that was hanging dry wall in the pregnancy center a couple of weeks ago began a discussion about construction sites. They commented that at your typical construction site you find all kinds of junk between the walls - from cigarette butts, to beer cans, you name it. The question was thrown out, "What will people one day find here between these walls?"
In the moment, I just chuckled to myself, but the truth is that the question rang on in my mind for days. For days it was like would not let me let go of the tought until I felt He very clearly gave me one of His creative ideas. He impressed upon me that we were to fill the walls of this place with His word, with songs, and with prayers - prayers for the teenage moms who will enter these place in need of help, prayers for their children, and prayers for the workers who will be here to serve them. Then I felt God further impress upon me that by doing so we would be dedicating this place to Him, and to the work that He will continue to do here for years and years to come.
You see, this building, and these facilities belong to the government. When the renovations are complete, and the offices are inhabited I'm sure that they will hold some sort of ceremony to commemorate the event. But I am certain that it won't involve prayer, and I'm certain that it won't involve asking the Holy Spirit to inhabit this place. Just as God has opened the door for us as a ministry to work and serve here for the time being, it is His perfect timing that allows us to be part of filling the walls with prayers, that allows us to evoke His presence and His spirit upon this place. It is His timing that allows us to be able to dedicate this place to the Lord, the way it ought to be. So, while the ladies group was here we did just that.
When we arrived at the facilities I explained the history of how God opened this door for us to serve here, and I shared my heart behind wanting to claim the place for Him. And then we we began to worship in a brand new way. We broke out our sharpee markers and began writing, as the Lord led each one to participate in their own special ways. Some walked around praying for various rooms, laying hands on the walls, occasionally singing songs of praise. The majority spent the time writing prayers, and psalms, and songs, and scriptures, and promises from God's word all over the place. We wrote all over on the inside of partitions we have been building for the offices, we wrote on metal studs and on the back of the drywall that was still exposed in many places, and on drywall sheets that have yet to be hung.
Towards the end of the time we began to pray more corporately in groups, and then closed together in prayer and song. It was an amazing experience - I'm so glad that God, in His creativeness shared the idea with me! I know that we as a group were blessed to be a part of the dedication, and I cannot wait to see and hear the testimonies of the ways the Lord will touch peoples lives for years and years.
